Message from the Minister of National Defence to CSE employees

Dear CSE,

It is an honour to be sworn in as your new Minister of National Defence and have the opportunity to work so closely with the Communications Security Establishment.

I have been fortunate enough, throughout my career, to see first-hand the calibre of work, and the dedication to the mission shown by everyone who works at CSE. I know you work tirelessly to protect this country and all Canadians, often quietly and without public recognition.

You, more than anyone else, are familiar with the challenges we face, from Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine, to ongoing cyber threats to Canadian critical infrastructure, and much more. It is my firm belief that we must always stand up for our most important values. As such, I am dedicated to supporting CSE as it continues to play a key role in in keeping Canada and Canadians safe.

As these threats grow, and as CSE responds by growing its capacity to address these threats, I look forward to supporting your efforts to recruit Canada’s best and brightest.  Equally, I understand the importance of diversity and inclusion to the success of your institution, and how critical it is that a diversity of voices and perspectives be brought to the table as CSE fulfills its mandate.

I’d be remiss to not sincerely thank my predecessor and friend, the Honourable Anita Anand, who has always spoken very highly of CSE. I wish her well in her new role, and pledge to continue to build on what she has achieved with you during her tenure.

In the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to getting to know CSE better, especially its people. As an organization, you have distinguished yourself as a vital part of the Canadian security landscape and earned a strong reputation among our allies. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and hope to connect with many of you as possible.

Thank you for your service and dedication to Canada.

Sincerely,
The Honourable Bill Blair, P.C., C.O.M., M.P.
